How to learn to be more confident?

07 October 2023

In conversations with people working on their personal development, I learn about the many challenges we face related to the amount of available materials on this topic. It seems that in today's world full of information and opportunities to access knowledge, finding effective ways to increase self-confidence can be a bit overwhelming. We often spend hours reading blogs and books, listening to personal development podcasts, and browsing articles on the subject. Especially short information on social media is often a Golden Rule!, The Only Thing You Need!, Just Do It to Achieve Personal Success!, and each next one excludes the previous one. It's exhausting. And on top of that, it's not very effective. And that's why many people looking for information are overwhelmed and lose sight of their goal. So, is that really enough to gain more self-confidence? Unfortunately, just accumulating knowledge is not enough. Lack of action can make us stay in place, still suffering from lack of self-confidence.

Gathering knowledge about effective ways to increase self-confidence is important, but it is only the first step. The key element is to practice this knowledge in everyday life. Here are some practical tips that can help you gain more self-confidence:

  • Define your goals: Think about what goals you would like to achieve in order to feel more confident. It could be a public speaking, acquiring new professional skills, or making new social contacts. Choose the most urgent one for you at the beginning and focus on it.
  • Take action gradually: Don't try to achieve everything at once. Break your goal down into smaller steps and work on them consistently every day.
  • Develop interpersonal and communication skills: Take on challenges that require you to talk to strangers or give a public speech. This is a great way to overcome the fear of rejection and increase self-confidence. Building relationships with other people can have a significant impact on your self-confidence. Practice empathy, active listening, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Nurture positive thoughts: Through small successes of achieving the next steps towards your goal, work on building your positive self-image. Learn to recognize negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones.

Practicing knowledge and taking action are the key to increasing self-confidence, but the support of others can significantly accelerate this process. Mentoring, coaching, and personal development training are excellent tools that can help you achieve your goals.

  • Mentor is someone who has experience in the area you would like to develop. Thanks to a mentor, you can learn from the mistakes of others and gain valuable tips and practical knowledge.
  • Coach will help you set goals, develop an action plan, and monitor your progress. It is a personal guide that will help you overcome barriers and realize your potential.
  • Personal development trainer is a specialist who will help you work on specific skills that will affect your self-confidence. This can be assertiveness training, stress management, or developing interpersonal skills. A personal development trainer focuses on helping you achieve goals, build motivation, develop potential, and manage effectively.

Increasing self-confidence is a process that requires action and practicing knowledge in everyday life. Invest in yourself wisely - in information and knowledge that will show you what you are capable of, in time to test them on yourself, and in the support of a specialist who will help you use your potential and adapt the tools to you so that they actually work.
